Meeting Notes
August 23, 2006

Meeting was called to order at 19:25 by President Tom Trump

Minutes from May meeting were approved as read.

Treasurer Report:









































Purchased $6804.00 Spent/$216 remains - Bulk of money spent on Medical; supplies for Disaster Trailer. 2 more pop-up Tents and electrical hook ups. Recommended we purchase additional N-95 Masks with remaining funds.

2007 EMS Saturday: Contract signed with South Slope for February 17, 2007.
3 speakers currently secured are:

Jeff Thomas
Chad Thor?????

Committee is looking for additional suggestions if you have ideas for speakers please contact Dave Dvorsky.

LP500 Software Upgrades: Ryan From sales for Physio Control said the software would be ready in the near future to update LP500 defibrillators to the new AHA CPR standards. As soon as Ryan has software he will schedule a time to have all services bring their units to JCAS and will reprogram the D-Fibs at no cost to the services.

New Business:

Southeast Iowa EMS Assn. and Bureau of EMS Report:
Cindy Heick is the new Injury Prevention Coordinator for the Bureau. AED Grant Administrator position has been done away with. There is no funding, so the State Medical Director’s position is also vacant.

REMINDER: ALL services need to update service info and populate their rosters in the system registry.

· This replaces service application process
· Once roster is completed …….check and update quarterly
· Hills, Tiffin & Iowa City Stations 2 & 3 need to complete this work ASAP
· IF NOT ROSTERS NOT DONE FOR ALL JC EMS ASSOCIATION MEMBERS ASSOCIATION WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR HRSA FUNDS IN 2007.

New protocols are out on the Bureau website, Steve Spenler will work with Dr. Huss to facilitate getting them reviewed and gain the proper signoff sheets for the county.

Medical Director’s workshop U of I , Sept 21st.

Don’t forget any new medical devices to hit the market need to be listed in your scope of practice and must be approved for use by your medical director prior to buying and putting in service.

AED Grants still available to services that do not have pediatric defibrillation capabilities or for public access programs Contact Evelyn Wolfe for additional info.

Coralville is planning on buying a new D-Fib if anybody else with in the county are interested may be able to work a better deal please contact Scott Nibaur.

Oxford asked how Departments go about getting additional funding for training suggestions made were:

· Verify Tax Levy’s
· Steve Spenler suggested talking with Legislators for support of bills that maybe in the works Steve will try to communicate to association so others can talk with legislators about it impact to them so more support can be drummed up.
· Talk training cost and needs with your township trustee so they understand cost of EMS as a standalone item.

07 HRSA Grant is estimated to be $6042.00 per county but performance measures have to be accomplished before funds can be awarded. They include:
· ALL Services on the registry
· Complete a baseline training survey
· Scheduling a functional exercise
· Completion of a medical resource list of trucks, equipment and personnel.


State EMS conference to be Nov 9, 10, 11 at the Polk Co Convention Center and the Marriott. Randolph Mantooth to be speaking on Thursday and Friday.

There is a proposal to build an EMS Memorial in Des Moines near the Jordan Creek Mall Currently the IEMSA, Wal-Mart West Des Moines Fire and EMS have each pledged $5000.00 towards the project.
Please be aware there is a new drug on the market (Inhaled Insulin) was Available mid August.

Election of Officers:

The following individuals were nominated and elected as At Large Members for 06/07:
Mindy Scott
Dave Dvorsky
Doug Campbell
Steve Emerson

President 1 year term – Nominations received were for David Dvorsky, Dave accepted the nomination. Nomination ceased unanimous vote cast in favor of Dave Dvorsky as President Passed.

Treasurer 2 year term – Craig Cochran nominated, he declined nomination due to family commitments felt time for someone else to step forward. Steve Spenler volunteered if Association felt it would not be a conflict of interest. Doug Campbell nominated Steve Spenler, Craig Cochran seconded nomination. Nomination ceased Steve Spenler elected as Treasurer.

Due to the election of Dave Dvorsky to the President role the Vice Presidents role was left vacated, several folks were asked to consider the role but at this time the have chosen to decline. Steve Spenler motioned we table nominations for Vice President till the next meeting so folks were able to give the role more consideration. Motion was seconded and passed till next meeting. Please let the nomination committee of Mindy Scott, Toni Cooling or Kathy Riggle if you have a nomination for Vice President prior to the next meeting.

SEI EMS Association Meeting is scheduled for Oct 26 in Washington Iowa Steve Spenler is our current representative but if someone has an interest in attending we can have multiple representatives.

Coralville will hold the following classes:
Oct 11 – Disaster
Nov 8 – Blood borne
Dec 13 Hazmat Re Cert

All classes start at 6:30 and will be awarded 2 CEU’s contact Scott Nibaur for more information.
